Powermite South Africa: Industrial Plugs & Sockets Experts
Powermite helps industry keep power connected and equipment moving. As an industrial plugs and sockets supplier established in 1967, we combine decades of experience with specialist knowledge of flexible cables, crane electrification, and power transfer systems. We serve customers across South Africa and the wider Sub-Saharan region.
Our business began with four people and a clear purpose: to supply specialised electrical equipment for South Africa’s material handling sector, particularly the mining industry. Today, that purpose continues to guide our work. We bring together products, technical capabilities, and regional support to address the electrical demands of moving machinery and industrial operations.
From a connector on a workshop machine to a cable reeling installation at a port, every application deserves careful attention. We focus on understanding how equipment operates, the conditions it faces, and the power connections it needs to perform its role.

Leading Supplier of Industrial Plugs and Sockets in South Africa
Industrial plugs and sockets have been central to our offering since our earliest years. These connections serve equipment operating in demanding environments, where product suitability, durability, and dependable performance matter.
As an established industrial plugs and sockets supplier, we support customers who need electrical connection solutions for manufacturing, mining, material handling, and other industrial applications. Our offering forms part of a broader approach to power transfer, allowing customers to discuss connectors alongside cables, cable management equipment, and associated systems.
Our acquisition of AMPCO in 1974 strengthened this capability. Bringing a respected local manufacturer of industrial plugs and sockets into the business expanded our product range and reinforced our connection to South African manufacturing.
That combination of supply expertise and manufacturing capability remains an important part of our identity. We understand the value of selecting equipment around the application, with the relevant electrical ratings, environmental conditions, and product requirements considered from the start.
1967
A focused beginning on the West Rand
We started as a team of four, supplying specialised electrical equipment to the material handling sector. Mining was a particular focus, and industrial plugs and sockets formed an important part of our early offering.
1974
Expanding through AMPCO
The acquisition of AMPCO broadened our industrial connection range and strengthened our local manufacturing foundation. It was a significant step in developing a more comprehensive offering for industrial customers.
2004
Joining the Hudaco Group
Powermite and AMPCO joined the Hudaco Group, extending our place within a group specialising in the import and distribution of branded industrial and electronic products.
2025
A team of 121 across our divisions
By 2025, our business employed 121 people across its divisions. Our growth reflects the breadth of products, specialist knowledge, and operational support needed to serve a diverse industrial customer base.
Across these milestones, our focus has remained consistent: building the capabilities needed to support industry with suitable electrical and power transfer solutions.
1981
A broader electrical supply business
By 1981, we had developed into a single source for electrical crane materials, flexible cables, and industrial plugs and sockets. Our team had grown to 114 employees, with a head office in Sandton and branches in Cape Town, Durban, and Richards Bay at that time.
Trusted Electrical Cable Suppliers for Industrial Applications
A cable is part of a working system. Its suitability depends on how it is installed, whether it moves, what it supplies, and the conditions around it. Our role as electrical cable suppliers is to bring that wider application into the conversation.
We supply flexible cables and associated products for industrial equipment, crane systems, and mining operations. This offering sits alongside our cable reeling equipment, festoon systems, down shop systems, energy chains, and control solutions.
Considering these products together helps customers address the complete power transfer requirement. A cable must work with the equipment that supports and guides it, just as a connector must suit the electrical supply and operating environment.
For customers, this means access to a business that understands the relationship between the individual component and the larger installation.
01
In-House Design and Commissioning Capabilities
Our experience extends beyond product supply. We have an in-house design and commissioning team with experience in major South African and cross-border installations in ports, harbours, mining, and heavy industry.
This capability allows us to engage with projects where layout, movement, operating conditions, and system integration require particular attention. We draw on our knowledge of power transfer technology to help address the practical requirements of these installations.
Whether the enquiry concerns a component replacement or a larger project, clear application information is the foundation of a useful technical discussion.
02
The Values Behind Our Work
Specialist Knowledge and Innovation
We value the practical application of knowledge. Our experience in power transfer technology informs how we assess requirements, develop solutions, and respond to changing industrial needs.
A Focus on Our Customers
We begin by listening. Understanding the customer’s equipment, constraints, and objectives helps us provide relevant product information and meaningful support.
Honesty, Integrity, and Transparency
Clear communication is central to lasting working relationships. We value openness within our team and in our dealings with customers, suppliers, and project partners.
Collaboration and Continued Learning
We believe in developing knowledge and sharing experience. Education, teamwork, and ongoing learning help strengthen our capabilities and the service we provide.
A Commitment to Sustainability
We recognise sustainability as part of responsible business growth. It informs our commitment to continued improvement and the long-term development of our operations.
Regional Reach and Customer Support
Our distribution network spans Southern Africa, while our project experience reaches into the wider Sub-Saharan region. We support customers working across different locations, industrial sectors, and operating environments.
We recognise that reliable service includes clear communication. Understanding the scope of an enquiry, identifying the relevant product information, and discussing project requirements all contribute to a productive working relationship.
Our aim is to be a dependable point of contact for customers who need specialist electrical equipment and practical support.
High-Quality Flexible Cables for Industrial and Mining Use
Flexible cables are a core part of our business. Through our own Texoprene brand and our wider cable offering, we serve applications where cables need to accommodate movement and demanding working conditions.
Mining machinery, cranes, and other industrial equipment can place substantial mechanical demands on their cables. Repeated bending, travel, and exposure to the surrounding environment make application suitability especially important.
We approach cable enquiries by considering the equipment and its duty. Electrical requirements, movement, bending characteristics, environmental exposure, and the cable management arrangement all help define what the application needs.
This focus connects our flexible cable offering with our wider power transfer capabilities. The objective is a coordinated solution in which the cable, its support system, and its connections are suited to their intended roles.
